In a continued effort to support national defense and advance chemical threat detection technologies, Morphix Technologies proudly participated in the 2021 Chemical and Biological Operational Analysis (CBOA) exercise hosted by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The event took place from May 24–28, 2021, at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek–Fort Story in Virginia Beach.

CBOA is a live, scenario-based field assessment designed to connect defense technologists with end users—specifically, the warfighters who rely on chemical and biological detection systems in real-world operational environments. At this event, participants evaluate how prototype technologies perform under realistic mission conditions. Warfighters provide feedback on each technology’s form, fit, function, and ease of use.

The 2021 event also implemented a COVID-19 Response and Preparedness Plan, ensuring that evaluations were conducted safely amid ongoing health precautions.

Morphix Technologies: Fielding the Future of Chemical Detection

At the event, Morphix Technologies demonstrated two of its innovative solutions:

  • The Chameleon® Chemical Detection Armband – A rugged, wearable chemical detector designed to alert users to the presence of dangerous toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) and chemical warfare agents (CWAs). It offers hands-free, colorimetric detection that requires no power source, making it ideal for use in austere or fast-moving environments.
  • A prototype hands-free Class 1 chemical detector – A next-generation solution under development by Morphix, designed to provide advanced detection capabilities while allowing full mobility and minimal user distraction. Though still in development, the prototype generated interest for its potential applications in field and tactical settings where quick, passive detection is critical.

A Growing Role in Defense Readiness

For Morphix Technologies, a company based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, participation in CBOA 2021 underscores its commitment to supporting national security through innovative chemical detection solutions. While originally known for serving the defense sector, Morphix has increasingly expanded its technologies into law enforcement, emergency response, and industrial safety applications—leveraging decades of experience to serve a wider range of mission-critical environments.
