HYDRAZINE DETECTION BADGES

– HYDRAZINE CHEMICAL DETECTION DEVICES

DETECT HYDRAZINE ON THE JOB SITE

Hydrazine is a colorless liquid with a penetrating odor comparable to that of ammonia. It is used predominantly as a fuel for rocket and jet engines and in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.  Hydrazine vapor is extremely destructive to the tissues of the mucous membranes and the upper respiratory tract. Symptoms of exposure may include coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting. NIOSH recommends that hydrazine be handled with extreme caution and should be considered as a potential occupational carcinogen in the workplace.

SafeAir Hydrazine badges are simple, cost-effective, industry-proven solutions for hydrazine detection in the workplace.  They use colorimetric technology (i.e. color change) to provide immediate indication when hydrazine is present.  No need for lab analysis or electronic reader.

SafeAir Hydrazine Badge (Part#: 382002)

SafeAir Hydrazine badges provide an immediate visual indication of exposure to hydrazine. When hydrazine vapor is present, the exclamation mark in the triangular window changes color. The intensity of the color change is proportional to the exposure dose.  To measure hydrazine exposure dose, an optional color comparator is available for use with the badge.  SafeAir Hydrazine badges are a simple, cost-effective solution for hydrazine detection in the workplace.

SafeAir Hydrazine Color Comparator (Part#: 383001) is an optional accessory for use with SafeAir Hydrazine badge (Part# 382002). Badges are sold separately.

The comparator is used to determine hydrazine exposure dose by matching the color on the badge to a color on the comparator color wheel. It measures hydrazine exposure dose from 4.5 to 300 ppb●hour.

SafeAir Hydrazine Dual-Level Badge (Part#: 382020)

SafeAir Hydrazine Dual Level badges provide an immediate visual indication of exposure to hydrazine at two sensitivity levels. The front of the badge detects hydrazine at 8 ppb hour, the same as the standard SafeAir hydrazine badge.         The back of the badge is more sensitive, detecting hydrazine at 4 ppb hour.

SafeAir Dual Level Hydrazine badges are a simple, cost-effective, and precise solution for hydrazine detection in the workplace.

– Frequently Asked Questions –

FAQ

Where is hydrazine used?

Hydrazine is used predominantly as a fuel for rocket and jet engines and in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. In addition, hydrazine salts are used in refining and as corrosion inhibitors.

What are the health effects of hydrazine exposure?

Hydrazine vapor is extremely destructive to the tissues of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Symptoms of exposure may include coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting.

What are the exposure limits for hydrazine?

OSHA exposure limit for hydrazine is 1 ppm (TWA). NIOSH exposure limit for hydrazine is 0.03 ppm (two-hour ceiling). NIOSH recommends that hydrazine be handled as a potential occupational carcinogen in the workplace.

How does a hydrazine badge change color?

A color-forming reaction occurs when hydrazine reacts with the proprietary indicator layer in SafeAir Hydrazine detector badges.
