DETECT FORMALDEHYDE ON THE JOB SITE
Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent, suffocating odor. It is used as a fumigant, a sterilant, and as an industrial chemical in the manufacturing of resins for adhesives, plastics, coatings and fabrics. Formaldehyde is a potent irritant to eyes, nose and throat. The most common effects of low-level formaldehyde inhalation are eye, nose and upper respiratory irritation. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.
ChromAir and SafeAir Formaldehyde badges are simple, cost-effective, industry-proven solutions for formaldehyde detection in the workplace. They use colorimetric technology (i.e. color change) to provide immediate indication when formaldehyde is present. No need for lab analysis or electronic reader.
BADGES DESIGNED FOR FORMALDEHYDE DETECTION

SafeAir Formaldehyde Badge (Part#: 382011)
SafeAir Formaldehyde badges provide an immediate visual indication of exposure to formaldehyde. When formaldehyde gas is present, the exclamation mark in the triangular window on the back side of the badge changes color. The intensity of the color change is proportional to the exposure dose. SafeAir Formaldehyde badges are a simple, cost-effective solution for formaldehyde detection in the workplace.

ChromAir Formaldehyde Badge (Part#: 380007)
ChromAir Formaldehyde badges provide an immediate visual indication of exposure dose for formaldehyde. When exposed to formaldehyde, a color change forms, starting from the bottom cell, and then moving up each cell to the top cell. The highest cell with a color change indicates dose exposure level. ChromAir Formaldehyde badges are a simple, cost-effective solution for formaldehyde detection in the workplace.

– Frequently Asked Questions –
FAQ
Where is formaldehyde used?
Formaldehyde exposure occurs because of its extensive use as an industrial chemical in the manufacturing of resins for adhesives, plastics, coatings and fabrics. Additional exposure to formaldehyde emissions comes from its use as a fumigant and sterilant. The major source of atmospheric discharge of formaldehyde is from combustion processes, specifically from the photo-oxidation of hydrocarbons in auto emissions.
What are the health effects of formaldehyde exposure?
The most common effects of low-level formaldehyde inhalation are eye, nose and upper respiratory irritation. Chronic symptoms of exposure are itching eyes, dry and sore throat, and possible difficulty in sleeping and unusual thirst after awakening. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen.
What are the exposure limits for formaldehyde?
OSHA PEL (permissible exposure limit) for formaldehyde is 0.75 ppm (TWA). NIOSH REL (recommended exposure limit) is 0.016 ppm (TWA).
How does a formaldehyde badge change color?
A color-forming reaction occurs when formaldehyde reacts with the proprietary indicator layer in SafeAir and ChromAir formaldehyde detector badges.
