In today’s modern globalized economy, ships transport numerous goods and raw materials all over the world. When these ships come into US waters the US Coast Guard (USCG) responds, acting as the first line of defense against drug smuggling, criminal, and terrorist activity. The Chameleon chemical detection armband helps keep US Coast Guardsmen safe when they board vessels entering US waters.

Since 2012 Morphix Technologies, an innovator in the science of detection devices for dangerous chemicals, has proudly supplied the US Coast Guard with custom Chameleon kits under long-term Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts. The USCG CBRNe branch has articulated that with each mission USCG personnel enter unknown areas with absolutely no idea what type of dangers they may encounter. In response to requests from the US Coast Guard, Morphix specially developed two additional cassettes in 2017 to detect the potential chemical threats faced when boarding a vessel. Under the IDIQ contracts, over 6000 US Coast Guardsmen have been outfitted with the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband to date.

The Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband is an easy-to-use, inexpensive, reusable armband that can be attached to the forearm or other easily observed location, and holds up to 10 one-time-use, disposable cassettes. Each cassette detects a particular toxic chemical or class of chemicals and changes color upon detection of the chemical agent. The Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband has been approved by the U.S. SAFETY Act of the Department of Homeland Security as an anti-terrorist technology.

The Chameleon chemical detection armband has become an integral tool for CBRNe personnel facing the challenge of unknown chemical threats. Lightweight, rugged, handsfree, and water-resistant, the design of the Chameleon lends to the needs US Coast Guardsmen demand. The cost-effective nature of the chameleon platform makes it a favorite amongst decision makers and budget-conscious buyers. With the Chameleon Chemical Detection Armband, the detection of toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) has never been easier.

“We are so very grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide the Chameleon to the United States Coast Guard. The increased capability with the additional cassettes provides even greater safety to those that serve and protect us,” said Kimberly Chapman, VP of sales and marketing for Morphix Technologies

When a firefight breaks out and bullets are flying, military and law enforcement personnel gear-up with body armor and bullet proof vests to deter the threat. All the same, when the threat of toxic chemicals arises, the Chameleon Chemical Detection armband becomes the detection solution of choice for military and law enforcement.
